Grave of the Fireflies Review
Grave of the Fireflies is an animation written and directed by Isao Takahata and animated by Studio Ghibli. The animation is considered an anti-war movie since the plot is about two siblings in the post-war of japan. The story is based on the 1967 semi-autobiographical novel Grave of the Fireflies by Akiyuki Nosaka. The story talks about the lives of Setsuko and Seita. The animation started shortly after the end of the world war II where we can see a 14 year old boy dying from starvation. His name is Seita. Grave of the fireflies tells a backstory about the lives of Seita and his sister setsuko. During the war, the siblings together with their mother tried to go to the nearest bomb shelter. As they tried to secure their mother who had a heart illness, they were caught off guard and got hit by a nearby bomb. Both the siblings survived but their mother was severed and later died in a medical facility. With no where to turn to. the two siblings tried to take shelter at their Aunts house but later left since the food ration became smaller and their aunt started blaming them. Because of these circumstances both the siblings didn't survived.
I Consider this anime as one of the most devastating and depressing animation of all times. The story is really rich in morals about the hardships of life. Especially during a war. This animation will make you realize that not all animations brings you laughter and joy. Grave of the fireflies brought me to tears because of how detailed the scenes are. Like when his sister died, and near the ending. To those who already watched this animation probably have their point of view changed to a very wild and overwhelming mixed of emotions. Anger, Sadness, Pity, and more. Those are probably the emotions you can feel watching this animation. IF someone watches this movie armed with a soft heart, i'll give her around half the movie and she will start crying.(No exaggeration). This animation shows how great love is between siblings, and what things we can sacrifice for our brothers or sisters. this animation also changed my life, and open my mind to optimism and being brave enough to face my problems. I really thank this animation A LOT.
I'll rate this anime 10/10
